巴瑞特（Timothy Hugh Barrett），1949年生，英格兰吉尔福德人。1971年毕业于剑桥大学，在剑桥期间师从崔瑞德学习中国文化。后到美国跟随温士敦学习中国宗教，1978年以论文《李翱思想中的佛教、道教和儒教》获耶鲁大学博土学位。曾在日本东京做访问学者。1975年至1986年执教于剑桥大学。1986年至今在伦敦大学东方与非洲研究院任职。主要著作有《李翱——释子、道土还是新儒家》、《唐代道教——中国历史上黄金时期的宗教与帝国》、《儒家的智慧》（合着）、《发明印刷术的妇女》、《寒山诗研究》（合着），发表有《与的流传》、《唐代道教教权的出现》、《唐代道教和藏文佛经中提及的景教和摩尼教》等大量关于中国宗教与历史的文章。
